What applying is like

Five steps, described in full on the careers page: you write to us, a conversation of around forty-five minutes, a real problem timeboxed and paid, a review of that work with the people you would work with, and a decision with reasons within a week. We read every application ourselves and we do not ask for unpaid work of any size.

Two features of the job are worth knowing before you start: your work is measured in public, including the regressions, and the engineering is agent-run against deterministic gates. Both pages are accurate descriptions rather than recruiting copy, and not everyone wants the job they describe.

No role that fits? Write to us anyway

This is a real route, not a courtesy. We are small enough that a convincing message from someone strong changes what we hire for next, and more than one function here does not yet exist as a job title.

Send it to [email protected] with Speculative in the subject line, and make it short. Four things are worth more than a CV:

• The problem you want to work on here, specifically, and why it is this company.
• One thing you have built, what was genuinely hard about it, and what you would do differently.
• A disagreement — with the benchmark methodology, the development cycle, or the mission. All three are published so they can be argued with.
• Where you are, and how you would like to work.

A person reads it. If there is something to talk about we will say so; if there is not, you get a no rather than silence.
